Our own private chapel in Blaby

A quiet place to spend time with someone you love

Once your loved one comes into our care, they stay here with us at Bay Tree Funerals. If you would like to visit, Samantha will arrange a private time and explain everything before you come in.

Some families visit and some do not. There is no pressure, and there is no right or wrong choice.

Calling does not commit you to using Bay Tree Funerals.

A very personal decision

You do not have to make yourself visit

People can feel pulled in two directions about seeing someone before the funeral. One part of you may want that time together. Another part may want to remember them as they were. Both feelings are normal.

01

If you would like to visit

We will make the chapel ready, tell you gently what to expect and give you privacy. You can come with family, spend time on your own, sit quietly, talk, say a prayer or simply be there.

02

If you would rather not

That is completely all right. It says nothing about how much you loved them. We will care for them with exactly the same attention, and nobody at Bay Tree will try to change your mind.

“If you are not sure, just tell me. I will talk it through honestly, without pushing you either way.”

Samantha Ward, Lady Funeral Director

Continuity of care

You will know where your loved one is and who is looking after them

Our Chapel of Rest is inside our own funeral home at 7A Welford Road in Blaby. Your loved one is not passed to an unfamiliar branch or looked after miles away.

Samantha remains involved, supported by the same small Bay Tree team you meet when arranging the funeral. If you have a question about clothing, a personal item, a visit or anything that is worrying you, you can ask the people actually caring for them.

What a visit is like

We will explain it before you walk through the door

Not knowing what to expect is often the hardest part. You will not be left to work it out on your own, and you will never be rushed into the room.

01

We arrange a private time

Call Samantha and we will agree a suitable appointment. The chapel is prepared for your family, so the time is quiet and private.

02

We prepare you gently

Before you go in, we will explain what you are likely to see and answer anything you want to ask. If you feel nervous, please say so.

03

You have your own time

You can sit, speak, pray, play a meaningful piece of music or spend a few quiet moments together. We will be close by if you need us and give you space if you do not.

Small things can matter greatly

Tell us what would make the visit feel more personal

There is no set way the room has to be. We will listen to your family and, where we can, arrange the details that feel important to you.

  • Their own clothesA favourite outfit, something smart, nightwear or faith clothing.
  • Letters and photographsWords, pictures and drawings can be brought into the chapel.
  • A small personal itemAsk us first if you would like it to remain with them afterwards.
  • Prayer or reflectionYou may pray, sit quietly or ask your faith representative to advise.
  • MusicA favourite piece can make the room feel less formal and more familiar.
  • Time with family—or aloneWe will respect the way you would prefer to spend the visit.

Honest guidance, given kindly

Sometimes a visit needs a little more thought

A long illness, a sudden death, an injury or the involvement of the coroner can affect when a visit is possible or what we would advise. We will never hide that from you, but we will explain it carefully and without giving you detail you have not asked for.

If we think you should be prepared for a change in appearance, Samantha will speak to you first. You can then decide what feels right with proper information, not guesswork.

Questions families often ask

Plain answers about visiting

If your question is not here, please ring. You will not be the first person to ask it, and there is no awkward question as far as we are concerned.

Ask Samantha
What is a Chapel of Rest?

It is a quiet, private room inside a funeral home where family and close friends can spend time with someone before the funeral. At Bay Tree, our Chapel of Rest is here at our own funeral home in Blaby.

Do I have to visit?

No. Some people find a visit comforting and others prefer to keep their memories of the person in life. Neither choice is wrong, and we will not put any pressure on you.

Can children visit the Chapel of Rest?

Yes, if their parent or carer feels it is right for them. It helps to prepare a child honestly and gently for what they will see. Samantha can talk this through with you before you decide.

Can we bring letters, photographs or small keepsakes?

Usually, yes. Families often bring letters, drawings, photographs, flowers or a small personal item. If you want something to remain with your loved one for the funeral, burial or cremation, please ask us first so we can check it is suitable.

Can my loved one wear their own clothes?

In most cases, yes. You might choose a favourite outfit, smart clothes, nightwear or religious clothing. We will listen to what feels right and advise you if a particular material is not suitable for cremation or burial.

Who can come to a visit?

Visits are normally agreed with the person arranging the funeral. You may come alone or with close family. If friends would like to visit, it is best to check with the family first so everyone’s wishes are respected.

What if I change my mind?

That is all right. You do not have to decide immediately. Call Samantha and tell her how you feel; she will explain what is possible and help you make the decision at your own pace.
