A personal message from Samantha
You do not have to work out which hospital department does what
A loss in hospital can leave a family facing telephone calls, medical paperwork and funeral decisions all at once. It is completely understandable not to know where to begin.
Call me and I will separate the hospital process from the funeral arrangements. I will explain what can happen now, what must wait for official release and who is responsible for each part. Once you choose Bay Tree, I will liaise with the hospital and keep the funeral side of things moving for you.
“You do not need to arrive with a list of decisions. Tell me what has happened, and I will help you deal with one manageable step at a time.”
What happens next
Four clear steps, with somebody to ask at every stage
The hospital and Medical Examiner complete the official process. Bay Tree handles the funeral arrangements and coordinates collection once release is authorised.
Call me before everything is complete
You can choose Bay Tree and begin the arrangements without waiting for a certificate or knowing every funeral detail.
The hospital prepares the medical information
The Medical Examiner reviews the proposed cause of death and normally offers the family an opportunity to ask questions. A Coroner may take over where required.
The family is guided through registration
The Registrar explains the appointment and the official documents or notifications. The exact route is different when a Coroner is involved.
I arrange release, collection and care
Once authorised, I liaise with the hospital and arrange for your loved one to be brought to Bay Tree in Blaby.
Care without being passed between departments
One small family team taking responsibility for the details
Once your loved one comes into Bay Tree’s care, they remain at our funeral home and private Chapel of Rest in Blaby. I stay connected to your family’s wishes, chapel visits and every part of the funeral arrangements.
The funeral does not have to take place in Leicester city centre
I can arrange the funeral at the church, cemetery, crematorium or other venue that is right for your family. From Blaby, we support families across Leicester and Leicestershire, including services at Gilroes, Saffron Hill, Great Glen and South Leicestershire.

Faith and cultural timing
Tell me straight away if your family needs the funeral to take place quickly
If there is a religious or cultural reason for an early burial or funeral, tell the hospital team and call me as soon as possible. I will do everything I can to coordinate the arrangements, but the hospital, Medical Examiner or Coroner must complete the official process before collection can take place.

Questions families often ask
Leicester Royal Infirmary funeral-arrangement questions
These answers cover the questions I am most often asked. The official route can vary, particularly if the Coroner is involved, so please call me if your family’s situation is different.
Can I call Bay Tree before the hospital paperwork is complete?
Yes. You can call me immediately and begin discussing the funeral. Collection takes place only after Leicester Royal Infirmary, the Medical Examiner or Coroner has authorised release.
Where is the Leicester Royal Infirmary bereavement office?
University Hospitals of Leicester currently says bereavement services are on the ground floor of the Windsor Building, on the right-hand side after Windsor Reception. Families are seen by appointment only.
Do we have to use a funeral director suggested by the hospital?
No. The choice belongs to your family. Bay Tree Funerals is an independent funeral director in Blaby and I can liaise directly with the hospital after you choose us.
When can our loved one leave Leicester Royal Infirmary?
The hospital or Coroner must authorise release and the necessary official process must be complete. I will contact the relevant team and arrange collection as soon as permission is given.
What if our faith requires a quick burial?
Tell the hospital bereavement team and call me straight away. I will coordinate everything possible on the funeral side, but I cannot promise a release time controlled by the hospital, Medical Examiner or Coroner.
Can the funeral take place outside Leicester?
Yes. The place of death does not dictate the funeral location. I can arrange a local or wider-area church, cemetery, crematorium or other suitable venue according to the family’s wishes.
Will our loved one stay at Bay Tree after collection?
Yes. Once they come into our care, they are looked after at our funeral home and private Chapel of Rest in Blaby.
