Funeral arrangements after a loss at LOROS Hospice
If someone close to you has passed away at LOROS Hospice, you can call me as soon as you feel ready. You do not need to wait until every form has been completed or know what sort of funeral you want. I will listen, explain the next steps and take care of the funeral arrangements from our family funeral home in Blaby.
Available day and night, 24 hours a day. Calling does not commit you to using Bay Tree Funerals.
A personal message from Samantha
I will make the move from hospice care into funeral arrangements feel as gentle as I can
LOROS may already have cared for your family for some time. When the person you love has passed away there, it can feel difficult to move from hospice care into paperwork and funeral arrangements.
Call me and tell me what has happened in your own words. I will explain what LOROS, the Medical Examiner and the Registrar are likely to do, what we can begin now and what must wait for official release. You will not be passed around a large organisation at Bay Tree; I will remain the familiar person leading the arrangements.
“My job is not to rush you into choosing a funeral. It is to make sure you understand what happens now and to take responsibility for the details when you are ready.”
What happens next
Four clear steps, with somebody to ask at every stage
LOROS has its own official responsibilities, but you can still choose Bay Tree and begin discussing the funeral straight away. I will keep the different parts clear.
Call me when you feel ready
You do not need the right words, a death certificate or a final funeral decision before the first call.
LOROS starts the official process
The LOROS team prepares the medical information and the Medical Examiner speaks with the family. A Coroner may become involved where required.
The Registrar contacts the family
When the medical paperwork is accepted, the registration service explains the appointment and the documents or notifications needed next.
I arrange collection and care
When release is authorised, I liaise with LOROS and arrange for your loved one to come into our care in Blaby.
Care without being passed between departments
One small family team taking responsibility for the details
Once your loved one comes into Bay Tree’s care, they remain at our funeral home and private Chapel of Rest in Blaby. I stay connected to your family’s wishes, chapel visits and every part of the funeral arrangements.
The funeral does not have to take place near LOROS
From our funeral home in Blaby, I can arrange a service at the church, cemetery, crematorium or other place that matters to your family. Gilroes may be convenient for some LOROS families, but it is not your only choice.

A meaningful way to remember them
Donations to LOROS can be included in the funeral arrangements
If LOROS cared for someone close to you, your family may wish to ask for donations to the hospice instead of flowers, or include both. I can help with the wording for the funeral notice and make sure the family’s wishes are explained clearly.

Questions families often ask
LOROS Hospice funeral-arrangement questions
These answers cover the questions I am most often asked. The official route can vary, particularly if the Coroner is involved, so please call me if your family’s situation is different.
Can I call Bay Tree before LOROS has completed the paperwork?
Yes. You can call me as soon as you feel ready. We can begin talking about the funeral and the immediate next steps while LOROS, the Medical Examiner, Registrar or Coroner completes the official process.
When will LOROS contact the family?
LOROS’s published booklet says its Family Support Team normally contacts the family on the next working day, excluding weekends and bank holidays. Official timings can change, so follow any instructions LOROS gives you.
Do we have to use a funeral director connected with LOROS?
No. Your family is free to choose any funeral director. Bay Tree Funerals is independent from LOROS and I can liaise with the hospice once you choose us.
When can Bay Tree bring our loved one into care?
Collection can take place once the responsible organisation has authorised release and the required funeral documentation or notification is available. I will keep in touch and arrange it as soon as the official process allows.
Can we ask for donations to LOROS instead of flowers?
Yes. Many families choose donations, flowers or a mixture of both. I can help you word the funeral notice and explain the arrangements clearly.
Will our loved one stay at Bay Tree in Blaby?
Yes. Once they come into our care, they are looked after at Bay Tree Funerals in our own private Chapel of Rest in Blaby.
What happens if the Coroner is involved?
The Coroner controls the official investigation and release. You can still choose Bay Tree and call me for guidance; I will explain what we can arrange while we wait and liaise with the relevant team.
Whenever you feel ready
One phone call is enough to begin
You do not need to prepare anything or make every decision before you ring. Tell me what has happened at LOROS Hospice, and I will calmly explain the next step and take care of the funeral arrangements from there.
