Unattended Cremation Leicester
A simple unattended cremation, arranged with dignity and care
An unattended cremation, also known as a direct cremation, is a simple funeral without family attending the crematorium.
It can be a calm, respectful choice for families who would prefer to say goodbye privately, or hold a memorial in their own time.
Choosing an unattended cremation does not mean choosing less care
Every person entrusted to Bay Tree Funerals is cared for with the same dignity, respect and professionalism.
The only difference is that there is no formal service at the crematorium for family and friends to attend.

A personal goodbye
You can still remember them in your own way
Some families choose an unattended cremation first, then hold something personal afterwards.
This might be a meal together, a small gathering at home, scattering ashes somewhere meaningful, or simply spending time together as a family.
There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye.

Questions families often ask
Unattended cremation FAQs
Can family attend an unattended cremation?
No. With an unattended cremation, family and friends do not attend the crematorium. If you would like people to attend, we can explain other cremation options.
Is an unattended cremation still respectful?
Yes. Your loved one is still cared for with dignity and respect. The funeral is simpler, but the care should never feel less important.
Can we visit our loved one before the cremation?
In many cases, yes. If you would like to spend time in our Chapel of Rest before the cremation, please speak to us and we will explain what can be arranged.
Can the hearse pass our home?
Sometimes families ask for a hearse drive-by past a family home or another meaningful place. We can discuss this with you and explain any additional cost before it is arranged.
When are the ashes ready to collect?
Ashes are usually ready to collect from Bay Tree Funerals between 7 and 14 days after the cremation.
We will let you know as soon as they are ready and arrange a convenient time for collection.
Can we hold a memorial afterwards?
Yes. Many families hold a memorial, ashes scattering, meal, or celebration of life afterwards, when the time feels right.
Is this cheaper than a traditional funeral?
Yes. An unattended cremation is usually lower in cost because there is no formal crematorium service, hearse procession, limousines, or ceremony to arrange.
Can I still speak to a real funeral director?
Yes. Bay Tree Funerals is a local, independent funeral director in Blaby. You can speak to Samantha and our team directly.
Not sure whether unattended cremation is the right choice?
Please do not worry. You do not need to make the decision on your own.
We can explain the difference between an unattended cremation, a simple attended cremation, and a traditional funeral, so you can choose what feels right for your family.

I can’t thank Sam and the team enough for their support during such a difficult time. From the first phone call the day after my dad passed, I immediately felt I was in safe hands. Their warmth, kindness and professionalism made everything so much easier, taking a huge weight off my shoulders. Sam had extensive knowledge and was always on hand to answer any questions I had at any time, which I’m so grateful for. She made sure our family’s wishes were met without ever pushing any extras, and my family all commented on how thoughtful and professional the team were.Posted on Google kirsty murphy6. After arriving in Leicester from Canada, my uncle passed away unexpectedly , and I was responsible to take care of his arrangements. Not having lived in Leicester for many years, I chose Bay Tree based on their excellent reviews and I, too, am giving them an excellent review. It was a very difficult time as two months later my aunt also passed. I cannot speak highly enough about my experience with Bay Tree. From from my first visit they demonstrated exceptional compassion, professionalism, and respect for both my family and my loved ones. They handled every detail with care and sensitivity, making a challenging process feel much more manageable. Their clear communication and willingness to answer questions gave me peace of mind, and it was evident that they genuinely cared about honoring our loved one’s memory. The arrangements were carried out beautifully, with great attention to detail and dignity. It meant so much to us to know that everything was being handled with such thoughtfulness and respect. I am truly grateful for their support and would highly recommend their services to anyone in need of a caring and professional undertaker. Thank you Sam for your care and kindness, I felt truly supported during this time.Posted on Google Brian Walden2. May, 2026.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is the third time our family has used Baytree Funerals, and once again the service we received was excellent from start to finish. Sam, who managed everything for us, offered a very personal and supportive approach throughout. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and her attention to detail, care and professionalism really stood out. The service felt very genuine, friendly and personal, and we particularly appreciated the calm, one-to-one approach and thoughtful touches throughout the process. Everything was handled with dignity, respect and sensitivity, and the funeral itself was beautifully organised. We would wholeheartedly recommend Baytree Funerals to anybody going through the loss of a loved one. Thank you again for everything. Regards DianePosted on Google Martin Moor1.
