Kirby Muxloe has its own parish church, Free Church and Parish Council cemetery. Gilroes is often the most practical crematorium, while Great Glen and South Leicestershire Crematorium remain alternatives. Bay Tree can coordinate the complete arrangements while your loved one remains in our care at our funeral home and private Chapel of Rest in Blaby.
St Bartholomew’s Church
St Bartholomew’s is Kirby Muxloe’s Church of England parish church on Main Street. The Grade II* listed church has long served the village and is regularly used for funerals and memorial services.
Church of England funeral guidanceA church service followed by burial or cremation
A service at St Bartholomew’s may be followed by burial in the village cemetery or churchyard where rights permit, or by committal at the family’s chosen crematorium. Samantha can coordinate the timings and onward journey.
St Bartholomew’s churchyard
The church has a historic churchyard with longstanding village burials. Families should not assume that a new grave or ashes space is available; current rights, eligibility, permissions and availability must be confirmed directly with the church.
St Bartholomew’s Church Hall
A church hall exists on Main Street and is used by local groups. A funeral reception or family gathering requires direct confirmation of availability, accessibility, catering, alcohol conditions, capacity and current hire terms.
Kirby Muxloe Free Church
Kirby Muxloe Free Church is on Main Street and has served the village for generations. Families connected with the church can make a direct enquiry about a funeral or memorial service, with Bay Tree coordinating the practical arrangements where agreed.
Faith and cultural funeral guidanceKirby Muxloe Village Hall
Kirby Muxloe Village Hall is a separate community facility on Station Road. A funeral reception or family gathering requires direct booking with its managing trustees and confirmation of availability, suitability, catering, alcohol conditions and current charges.
Kirby Muxloe Cemetery
Kirby Muxloe Parish Council manages the village cemetery. It provides full burials, cremated-remains interments, Rose Garden plots and ashes scattering, subject to the Council’s current residency rules, forms, fees and availability.
Kirby Muxloe Cemetery guideResident burial rights
Kirby Muxloe residents may pre-purchase burial and ashes plots in advance. The Parish Council issues an Exclusive Right of Burial for 100 years and provides a deed as evidence of the burial right.
Non-resident restrictions
Since 15 January 2015, the cemetery has not accepted ordinary full burials or main-cemetery ashes interments for Leicester Forest East residents or other non-residents. Existing and previously purchased plots continue to be honoured.
Rose Gardens for non-residents
Non-residents may purchase a Granart-style cremated-remains plot in the Rose Gardens or arrange ashes scattering there, subject to current forms, fees and availability. These plots may be pre-purchased.
Interment times and paperwork
The Parish Council publishes a last interment time of 3pm for full burials and 3.30pm for cremated remains. All arrangements must be agreed with the Parish Clerk before any date or time is confirmed with the family.
Memorial permissions
The Council publishes applications for memorials, inscriptions, transfer of burial rights and memorial-safety procedures. The deed holder is responsible for maintaining the memorial, and an unsafe memorial may be made safe by the Council.
Gilroes Crematorium
Gilroes on Groby Road is often the most practical crematorium for Kirby Muxloe families. Each non-denominational chapel seats 100, with additional seating in side viewing rooms.
Gilroes Crematorium guideMusic, photographs and webcasting
Gilroes provides an induction loop, external speakers, webcasting, recordings and HD screens for photographs and video tributes. Samantha can coordinate these choices with the crematorium.
Gilroes Cemetery
New graves are available at Gilroes Cemetery, subject to Leicester City Council rules, fees and availability. Non-resident burial charges may apply to families living outside Leicester city.
Leicester burial guidanceSaffron Hill Cemetery
Saffron Hill is another Leicester cemetery where new graves are available. It also provides cremated-remains plots, children’s provision, Muslim burial areas and a cemetery chapel seating 65.
Saffron Hill Cemetery guideOther crematorium choices
Great Glen and South Leicestershire Crematorium at Countesthorpe may also be considered where availability, family connections, journey or the preferred setting make them suitable.

Registration guidanceMedical examiner and coroner process
Before registration, every death is independently reviewed by a medical examiner or investigated by a coroner. The registrar contacts the representative after the required documentation has been received.
