Extract from the Whetstone Parish Council Minutes of May 1909:

The Cemetery was formally opened on April 30th 1909, by Mr. J. W. Looms, Chairman of the Parish Council
The first interment in the Unconsecrated Portion being that of Lizzie, wife of Tom Shenton Kenney. The interment taking place on May 1st 1909. The officiating minister being the Rev. D. Edwards of Blaby.
The Portion set apart for Consecration was consecrated by the Bishop of Leicester on Tuesday May 11th 1909. The Parish Council and a large number of inhabitants being present.
The first interment in the consecrated portion took place on June 2nd 1909, being that of Horace, son of Joseph Shenton.
The Rev. R. J. Newby, Vicar of Whetstone officiating.
