Bereavement Counselling

Helping people in grief to find a way forward

Grief Loss Despair

The death of someone we love can be devastating.  It is the most painful and complex loss we are ever to likely experience.  The loss challenges our ability to adapt to a life without our loved one and the breaking of emotional ties leaves us with a deep sense of sadness and emptiness.

Unfortunately, sooner or later grief comes to us all. The range of feelings, thoughts and behaviors experienced are different to each person depending on their culture, background, gender, beliefs, personality and relationship with the deceased. However the grieving process is not an illness but a process of natural healing and restoration.

One-to-one bereavement counselling service gives you the opportunity to share your experience of grief in an atmosphere of support, warmth and encouragement. Our aim is to help you make sense of the bewildering array of emotional, psychological and physical responses to a bereavement and develop the skills in order to continue with life in a changed world.

Obviously, recovering from a significant emotional loss is not an easy task.  Taking the actions that lead to recovery will require your attention, open-mindedness, willingness and courage.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT SERVICE lEICESTER

The Trust also provides a Bereavement Support Service Leicester which is available from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holiday’s).

If you have suffered a bereavement within one of our three Leicester hospitals we are here to:

  • Provide further information or support.
  • Offer the opportunity to talk through what matters to you regarding your bereavement.
  • Arrange for you to meet with a member of the Medical / Nursing team who cared for your loved one, if you have questions you would like to raise and discuss.

If we are unable to help, we will signpost you to someone who can.  For example, although we do not provide a counselling service, we can assist you in finding someone who can help.

Family members and carers may contact us at any time. Family members are also offered the opportunity to receive a follow up telephone call or letter six to eight weeks after their bereavement.

If further information or contact is required in another language or format, this can be arranged.
