Birstall Cemetery
If someone wanted to be buried in Birstall but had moved away, tell me roughly when they left. That can affect the choice of grave and the fees. I’ll check both before you decide.

Arranging a burial here
The council accepts Birstall residents and former residents under rules based on when they moved away. Leaving within seven years and leaving between seven and fifteen years have different fee terms. After fifteen years away, an existing family grave may still be considered, but a new grave is excluded. I’ll check the dates and any deed with the council.
Burial of ashes on the Woodland Walk or in a grave
On Birstall’s Woodland Walk the ashes are placed straight into the earth, without a casket. If you want ashes to go into a family coffin grave, the council requires a coffin to have been buried there first. Tell me which place you have in mind and I’ll check the arrangements.
How much would it cost?
If you’d like to know the cost of an interment of ashes, give me a call. I’ll check the cemetery fees and explain any charge for our help. You can ring even if someone else arranged the cremation.

The Glade is the woodland area where ashes can be scattered on the earth. Families can apply even if the person lived outside Birstall. Woodland flowers and bulbs are allowed here. If you would like an individual stone or a vase, tell me before choosing this part of the cemetery.
Finding your way here
Greengate Lane, Birstall
Get directions on Google MapsIf you are visiting an ashes grave, give relatives the name of the garden as well as Greengate Lane. The Haven is full for new plots. If you would like an ashes casket buried here, we can ask about the Yew Haven or the New Haven.
An evening visit to Greengate Lane
The gates open at 8am. From April to September they close at 9.30pm, and from October to March they close at 7.30pm. If you are arranging a burial or the burial of ashes, those appointments run during the day.
