At Belgrave a further burial depends on space in an existing grave and the right permission. If you think your family has a grave here, ring me with a name. I can help check the record.

Using an existing grave

Burials at Belgrave are limited to existing graves with room for a further interment. If you have a grant or grave number, bring it when we talk. The council will need to check the space and obtain the required written permission.

Interment of ashes in a family grave

If your family hopes to bring ashes back to Belgrave, tell me who is already buried here. New graves are closed to purchase. I can ask the council whether the existing grave can take an ashes casket and whose written permission it needs before you bring the family together.

How much would it cost?

If you’d like to know the cost of an interment of ashes, give me a call. I’ll check the cemetery fees and explain any charge for our help. You can ring even if someone else arranged the cremation.

How we can help with the burial of ashes

Finding a grave without the number

The council can search its Belgrave records using the person’s name and the year they died. Their age or an old address can narrow things down. If you have a headstone photo, bring it along so we can check how the name was spelt.

Adding a name to a headstone

If there is already a stone on the family grave, take a clear photo of the wording before speaking to a mason. The grave owner’s permission and a council permit are needed for memorial work. We can help you check the paperwork before the mason starts.

Get directions on Google Maps

The cemetery is on Red Hill Way. If you are trying to find a family grave, have the full name and approximate burial date ready so the council can help identify the plot before your visit.

Help when you visit

The Friends of Belgrave Cemetery help visitors find family graves. If a stone has weathered or there is no marker, ask me about getting the section and grave number first, so whoever goes with you has somewhere to start.
